Guédelon
in episode 249 of Katia and Kyliemac V.O. (Original Version), we have the lovely vivi in studio, with whom we "talk about castles, medieval cities and other geekery... and stuff...".
one of our faithful commenters (hi daniel!!!) mentioned another medieval treasure one can visit in france: Guédelon. if you head over to the website (which is in French, English, German, and Dutch), you can see what the castle looks like now.
katia has been to see it, and i had the opportunity to visit Guédelon too, thanks to the graciousness of the lovely vivi, in 2007.
this is what it looked like then:
this is an image of what it should look like when it is finished in 2023:
i want one.
That *was* pretty gracious, wasn't it? :P We are gearing up for another visit with my sister in three weeks, and I'll be taking pictures of course, to show you what it looks like now!
@matoo- OH! i have never heard of that, and now it goes on my "i want to see that!" list.
@vivi - you are graciousness personified. and yes! please do take photos. i want to see how the place is coming along. i'm sure your sister will love it. :)

I visited several times the "Hermione" in Rochefort (this is not far from La Rochelle, you see?). This is the same concept, they are rebuilding the 1780 frigate of Lafayette.
It began in 1997, and I saw the construction at three different steps (every 3 years in fact). They are only using the old technics, and even rediscovering some forgotten building tricks. That's a FANTASTIC thing to visit!!
